Low frequencies test movement
Bass asks a speaker cone or diaphragm to move farther. Small phone and laptop speakers naturally reproduce very low tones weakly, so silence at an extreme bass frequency does not automatically mean failure.
Buzzing at moderate bass can reveal a loose surface, case resonance, grille obstruction or damaged driver.
Mid frequencies test everyday clarity
Much of speech intelligibility lives in the middle range. Comparing spoken audio with a controlled midrange tone often tells you more about practical speaker health than an extreme sweep.
A sudden dip may come from the speaker, room position, ear fit, source or hearing. Browser playback alone cannot isolate all of those variables.
High frequencies depend on the listener
High-frequency audibility varies with age, hearing history, volume and background noise. Never increase a test to a painful level simply because you cannot hear the highest setting.
Headphones should be set conservatively before a sweep starts. Keep water-exposed earbuds off your ears until dry.
What a browser tool cannot certify
Without a calibrated measurement microphone, controlled distance and known environment, a browser test cannot produce a laboratory frequency-response curve. It can reveal obvious rattles, dropouts, channel errors or routing problems.
Use the result to describe a symptom and decide the next check—not to claim a repair or hearing diagnosis.
