Audio routing

Why a phone speaker test plays through Bluetooth instead

If the test sound comes from another device, it cannot exercise the phone speaker you are trying to check. Correct the route before changing volume.

01

Look for the active media destination

Open the phone’s media controls while audio is playing and check the named output. It may show earbuds, a car, television, smart speaker or hearing accessory.

Select the phone speaker or disconnect the accessory. Merely closing its app may not release the route.

02

Turn Bluetooth off temporarily

For an urgent wet-speaker test, temporarily disabling Bluetooth is the fastest way to remove most wireless routes. Also disconnect wired adapters and USB-C headphones.

Reload the player if the browser held the old output path.

03

Check app and system volume separately

Media, calls and alarms may use different volume controls. Adjust media volume while the test is playing, not before it starts.

A silent browser tab, muted site or focus mode can also be involved.

04

Retest at a moderate level

Once sound clearly comes from the phone, begin the nBeats tool at a moderate level. Do not compensate for an incorrect output route by pushing every volume control to maximum.

If the built-in speaker remains silent across apps and after restart, the issue needs broader troubleshooting.
