Why water causes rough audio
A droplet can interfere with movement at the grille or speaker diaphragm, changing the load on the tiny driver. That can make voices buzz, bass flap or the whole speaker sound quieter.
Residue from soap, salt or sugary liquid can remain after the water evaporates and create a longer-lasting obstruction or corrosion risk.
Compare several clean sources
Play a spoken voice, a familiar song and the nBeats speaker test at moderate volume. Distortion in only one recording or app may come from the source, audio enhancement or network stream rather than the speaker.
Also disconnect Bluetooth and remove the case, which can route sound elsewhere or resonate against the phone.
Use less sound, then more time
If recent water exposure is likely, run one water-eject cycle with the speaker down, then let the phone rest in airflow. Repeated maximum-volume loops can stress a speaker that is already moving abnormally.
Retest later at a lower level. Improvement over time supports temporary moisture; unchanged or worsening distortion points elsewhere.
Signs that justify repair
Seek service if crackling remains after adequate drying, affects every source, appears with heat or power problems, or follows saltwater or chemical exposure. A completely silent speaker or microphone also needs more than a tone.
Document which speaker, app and volume level triggers the issue. That information helps a technician reproduce it.
