Does a water eject sound really work? What it can and cannot do

A water-eject sound has a narrow but plausible job: move the speaker diaphragm enough to disturb droplets close to the speaker opening. It is not a whole-phone drying system.

Why sound can move a droplet

A speaker creates sound by moving a diaphragm back and forth. That movement changes air pressure near the grille and may displace a nearby droplet. The effect depends on the speaker, the audio signal and the liquid’s location.

Independent testing reported by The Verge, involving iFixit, showed visible droplets leaving phone speakers when water-eject audio started. Liquid remained elsewhere. This observation does not establish whole-phone recovery or validate every current nBeats browser profile.

A 165 Hz label alone does not demonstrate that a sound is superior. No single frequency has been established as best for every phone. Speaker design and playback limits vary; selecting a model on nBeats loads an assigned file, not an independently certified calibration.

The speaker grille is the limit

A phone contains separate openings and cavities. The loudspeaker, earpiece, microphones, USB-C or Lightning connector, buttons and SIM tray do not share one simple path. A tone played through the loudspeaker cannot pull liquid out of all of them.

Treat a charging-port warning as a separate safety issue. Disconnect the cable and follow the phone maker’s drying instructions even if the speaker begins sounding normal again.

How to use the sound responsibly

Remove the case, disconnect Bluetooth and place a soft lint-free cloth below the affected speaker. Start at a moderate device volume, then raise the level only while the sound remains clean. Keep the speaker pointing downward and the device away from your ears.

  • Run one complete cycle.
  • Let the phone rest in a dry place with airflow.
  • Retest with ordinary spoken audio.
  • Repeat once only if the speaker remains mildly muffled.

When sound is the wrong next step

Stop if the phone heats up, shuts down, smells unusual, has a swollen battery, or remains badly distorted after drying time. Saltwater, soap, pool chemicals and sugary drinks can leave conductive or corrosive residue after the water evaporates.

No website can confirm internal dryness. When symptoms extend beyond the speaker, professional inspection is safer than longer or louder playback.
